Institute for Greek and Roman Antiquity (KERA)
The Centre for Greek and Roman Antiquity is the youngest of the National Research Foundation's three historical institutes. It was founded in 1979 in order to foster systematic research on antiquity, especially in subjects and periods where scholarly neglect seemed to afford room for a Greek contribution on an international level. |

Institute for Byzantine Research (IBR)
The Institute of Byzantine Research (originally the 'Centre for Byzantine Research') was founded in 1960 for the purpose of promoting research into Byzantine history and civilization. Its activities as a research centre focus on a number of projects devoted to the study of Byzantine history. These projects provide an umbrella for a wide range of research fields and disciplines, exploiting various resources, whether literary, archival or archaeological, and explore relations and contacts among the peoples of the Balkans and, more generally, of the eastern Mediterranean throughout the Middle Ages. |

Institute for Neohellenic Research (ΙΝR)
The Centre for Neohellenic Research (CNR) was founded in 1960 and is one of the two oldest research centres in the National Hellenic Research Foundation. Its object is the study of Modern Hellenism from the fifteenth century to the present day.

Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology (IBRB)
The Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology (IBRB) was established in 1977. The Institute's research activities in the field of basic research are focused on the regulation of cell metabolism, in health and disease, at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational level and on the structure-function relationships of enzyme action. |

Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI)
The Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI) was established in 1979 and is one of the six research Institutes of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF). The goals of the TPCI include:
- The advancement of scientific research in the fields of theoretical and computational chemistry and physics, and experimental physical chemistry - chemical physics.
- The training of young scientists (undergraduates, graduates and postdoctoral fellows) in the methodology and practices of modern research.
- The transfer of know-how developed in the Institute into selected industrial applications through its R&D service facilities.

Institute of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (IOPC)
In 1979, the Centre for Organic Chemistry was established with the objective of pursuing research in the areas of Organic and Organometallic Chemistry. In 1989, after extending its activities to the field of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, it was renamed the Institute of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (IOPC). Basic analytical instruments such as high power NMR spectrometers and a mass spectrometer were acquired in the early 90's and by the mid 90's the Institute's infrastructure had become adequate enough for the research staff to be able to function in a more competitive way. IOPC has been recently awarded Excellence in Research on ''Novel strategies against neurodegeneration'' 2002-2005. A Structural Biology and Chemistry group was recently incorporated into IOPC. |
