What is the scope of the PEOPLE specific programme?

The programme ''PEOPLE'' aims to improve the quality of the human potential in European R&D and increase the number of researchers and others working in the R&D sector. It aims to do this by stimulating people to enter into research professions, encouraging European researchers to stay in Europe and making Europe more attractive for the best researchers from around the world. At the same time, training and career development of researchers will be actively supported.

PEOPLE programme with €4.7 billion will enable tens of thousands of researchers to benefit from fellowships for research training. The programme will help with training and career development in different sectors both public and private. The FP7 programme's activities will be based on the long and successful experience of the Marie Curie actions and will cover all stages of a researcher's professional life, from initial research training to life long learning and career development.

How will PEOPLE specific programme benefit industry and SMEs?

The Marie-Curie actions funded under the PEOPLE programme aim to increase mobility between public and private sectors, as well as between countries. To this end they will support industry training, joint research partnerships and staff secondments between the two sectors.

A strong participation in the actions of PEOPLE programme by enterprises, in particular SMEs, is considered an important added value. The enhancement of industry-academia cooperation in terms of research training, career development and knowledge-sharing is encouraged throughout the "Marie Curie Actions". In the implementation of this programme, the definition of "industry" is to be seen in a wider scope than just the traditional manufacturing and/or production industries and is to comprise enterprises in the general sense of commercial economic actors.
