• 1981: Degree from the Faculty of Philosophy (Department of History and Archaeology in History), University of Crete.
• 1992: PhD, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens (Supervisor: Prof. N. Oikonomides). Thesis title: Η θέση του βυζαντινού κλήρου στην βυζαντινή κοινωνία κατά τους ''Σκοτεινούς αιώνες''. • 1998-2001: Associate Researcher at the IBR/NHRF.
• 2001: Senior Researcher at the IBR/NHRF.
• 2002-: Member of the Programme ''Archival, Palaeographic and Diplomatic Research''.

MAIN FIELD OF RESEARCH
• Society and clergy in Byzantium, especially during the 'Dark Centuries'.
• Historical geography and regional history of Asia Minor.
• Hagiography of the Later Byzantine Period (1204-1453). Creation of the Data Base ''Hagiography of the Later Byzantine Period (1204-1453)''.

PARTICIPATION IN CONFERENCES
• Participation in 19 international conferences in Greece and abroad.
• Lectures given at Universities (of Patras, of Ioannina, of Paris-Sorbonne) and at the Academy of Sciences of Vienna.
