ΑCADEMIC DEGREES
• 1981: Degree from the Faculty of Philosophy (Department of History and Archaeology in History), University of Crete.
• 1992: PhD, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens (Supervisor: Prof. N. Oikonomides). Thesis title: Η θέση του βυζαντινού κλήρου στην βυζαντινή κοινωνία κατά τους ''Σκοτεινούς αιώνες''. Έρευνες για την παρουσία και την επιρροή του κοσμικού και μοναστικού κλήρου στην βυζαντινή κοινωνία από τα τέλη του έβδομου ως τα τέλη του όγδοου αιώνα / The Position of the Clergy in theByzantine Society during the 'Dark Centuries'. Research for the Presence and the Influence of the Secular and Monastic Clergy in the Byzantine Society from the End of the 7th till the End of the 8th Centuries, Athens 1992, pp. 408 (in Greek).

• 1981-1994: Research Fellow at the Institute for Byzantine Research / NHRF. Member of the ''Byzantine History Data Bank'' Programme.
• 1994-1998: Assistant Researcher at the IBR/NHRF. Member of the Programmes ''Byzantine History Data Bank'' and ''Realia Technologica. Agricultural (and Urban) Methods of Living and Cultivation''.
• 1998-2001: Associate Researcher at the IBR/NHRF.
• 2001: Senior Researcher at the IBR/NHRF.
• 2002-: Member of the Programme ''Archival, Palaeographic and Diplomatic Research''.

MAIN FIELD OF RESEARCH
• Society and clergy in Byzantium, especially during the 'Dark Centuries'.
• Historical geography and regional history of Asia Minor.
Hagiography of the Later Byzantine Period (1204-1453). Creation of the Data Base ''Hagiography of the Later Byzantine Period (1204-1453)''.

PARTICIPATION IN CONFERENCES
Participation in 19 international conferences in Greece and abroad.
• Lectures given at Universities (of Patras, of Ioannina, of Paris-Sorbonne) and at the Academy of Sciences of Vienna.

• 1 monograph, 2 books in collaboration, 2 collective volumes, and ca. 50 publications in scientific journals, edited volumes, conference proceedings, dictionaries and encyclopedias.
