Dimitra Andrianou was born in Athens in 1970. She graduated from the Department of Archaeology and Art History, University of Athens, and continued her graduate studies as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania (MA in Archaeology and Architecture, 1997) and Bryn Mawr College (PhD in Hellenistic Archaeology, 2003). Her PhD thesis is entitled "Επιπλα: Reconstructing Furnished Interiors in Hellenistic Greece." In 2003 she was a post-doctoral fellow and recipient of the Hirsch Fellowship at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Dimitra Andrianou has excavated extensively in Greece, Cyprus and Turkey, and taught various archaeological courses at the University of Pennsylvania and Bryn Mawr College. She has worked as a research assistant at the Institute for the Study of Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP) and as a museum intern at the University of Pennsylvania Museum in Philadelphia. In 2010 she was awarded a prize by the Academy of Athens for her monograph The Furniture and Furnishings of Ancient Greek Houses and Tombs (Cambridge University Press, 2009). Since 2004 she is a member of the National Hellenic Research Foundation and the Institute of Greek and Roman Antiquity.

Research Interest

Greek art and archaeology, public and private architecture, Hellenistic epigraphy, urban planning, regionalism, ethnicity, religion, vernacular studies, cultural contact and assimilation.

Major ongoing projects

• Member of the ANR program on Delos entitled "Entrepôts et Stockage en Méditerranée antique", organized by the French School at Athens in collaboration with French universities and institution
• Ancient Macedonia/Corpus of Monumental Tombs: Creation of a data-base
• Corpus of Inscriptions from Lower Macedonia (in collaboration)
• Study of funerary tombstones from Aegean Thrace
• Study of excavated furniture in ancient Messene (in collaboration with Prof. P. Themelis).
