Maria Gabriella G. Parissaki was born in Athens in 1965. In 1987 she graduated from the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens and in 1995 obtained her Ph.D from the same University (''The Kouros Type. Function and Interpretation in mainland Greece and the Islands''). During this same period she also worked as a high school teacher of Greek Philology and participated in various excavation projects (mainly in Athens, Naxos and Akarnania). Since 1996, when she joined the Northern Greece Programme of the Institute for Greek and Roman Antiquity of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, her interests have focused on the different aspects of the history and archaeology of northern Greece, and especially of Thrace from the period of Greek colonisation to the end of Roman rule.
