S. Zoumbaki was born in Athens in 1965. She graduated from the Lyceum of ''Protypos Scholi Anavryton'' in Athens (1983) and studied at the Department of History and Archaeology of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Athens (1983-1988). A scholarship of the Austrian Ministry of Education, Sciences and Culture enabled her to undertake postgraduate studies at the Institute of Ancient History and Epigraphy of the University of Vienna, where she obtained her M.Phil. (1993) and her Ph.D. (1995). She has worked in the Sculpture Collection of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens (1989), and as a collaborator in several projects at the K.E.R.A. (1988-1993). She worked as a teacher of Modern Greek Language for the students of the Institutes of Classical Archaeology and of Ancient History and Epigraphy of the University of Vienna (1994), and has been a researcher at K.E.R.A. since 1997. She has taken part in several Greek and international campaigns of field archaeology and has carried out European research projects in the framework of her work at K.E.R.A.

Research interests
History, epigraphy, prosopography, Roman onomastics, institutions, religion-feasts-games, economy of Southern Greece, Aegean islands and adjacent areas.
