Julie Evangelou was born at Piraeus in 1966. In 1989 she graduated from the Philosophical School of the University of Athens (Department of History). In 2010 she defended her doctoral thesis on «The Correspondence between the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Monastery of Giromeri in Thesprotia during the Post-Byzantine and Modern Era. A Contribution to the Philological Research of the Patriarchal Acts» at the University of Patras (School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Philology). From 1992 to 1996 she worked as a scholarship recipient at the Institute for Neohellenic Research/NHRF in collaboration with the research programme «Institutions and Ideology in the Neohellenic Society, 15th-19th c.». From 1997 to 1999 she participated in a research programme about the Neohellenic Enlightenment undertaken at the INR, in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina. Between 2000-2005 Evangelou collaborated with the INR/NHRF, the Historical Archive of Greek Youth of the General Secretariat for Youth etc., on editing academic books. During the years 2001-2002 and 2003 she classified the records of Adamantios Koraes' correspondence. Since 2005 she has been working at the INR/NHRF as a researcher on the project «Archives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople» and as an external research associate of the programme «Institutions and Ideology in the Neohellenic Society, 15th-19th c.». She has presented papers in conferences, taken part in research missions to various libraries and archives in Greece and Italy. Finally, she is a member of several scholarly societies.
