LEONIDAS F. KALLIVRETAKIS

PUBLICATIONS


Leonidas F. Kallivretakis was born in Canea (island of Crete) in 1953. In 1977 he graduated from the History and Archaeology Dept (Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens). He continued his post-graduate studies in Paris, orientated to the social and economic history, the political history of the Balkans and the history of consciences (Universite de la Sorbonne and Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes), while teaching Modern Greek Language, History and Civilization in the Institut d' Etudes Neohelleniques de Paris. In 1978 he obtained his Maitrise, in 1979 his Diplome d' Etudes Approfondies and in 1983 he successfully submitted his Doctorate thesis entitled Gustave Flourens (1838-1871) et la Grece (all in the Universite de Paris-Sorbonne / Lettres et Civilisations-Paris IV). After accomplishing his military service, he taught Modern and Contemporary Greek History in the public Post-Lyceum Centers of Athens (1985-1988).
At the same time, he carried out a research project sponsored by the Cultural Institute of the Agricultural Bank of Greece, dealing with the dynamics of agricultural change in Greece in the 19th century (1985-1988). With that opportunity, he prepared on two occasions feasibility studies for an Agricultural Museum (on command by the Agricultural Bank of Greece in 1989 and by the Agronomic University of Athens in 2002-2003). He also taught ''Questions of Historical Demography of Greece'' in the History and Ethnology Dept of the University of Thrace (1993-1994).
Since 1988 he works in the Institute for Neohellenic Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (INR/NHRF), elected Research Director in 2001 and recently Acting Director of the Institute (2011). Since 2002, he is a member of the Scientific Council of the INR/NHRF and, since 2005, a member of the Administrative Board of the NHRF. Since 2008, he is an associate editor of INR/NHRF Refereed Journal The Historical Review/La Revue Historique.
Between 2002 and 2008, he was in charge of the INR/NHRF Research Programme ''Historical Study of Settlements in Greece (15th-20th centuries)". Actually he is Coordinator of the INR/NHRF Research Section III "CONTEMPORARY POLITICAL HISTORY" and director of the Research Programmes "Documenting the Political and Social History of the 20th Century" and "The Greek Press".
He managed various research projects co-financed by external (mainly structural) funds, including "Aegean-A Historical Study of Settlements and the Architecture of the Habitat" (1995-1998), "Athens-A Historical Register of Buildings" (1996-1998), "Xestron-Traditional Techniques and Crafts in a Modern Technological Environment: Old Uses and New Perspectives" (1998-2001), "Pandektis-Digital Thesaurus of Primary Sources of Greek History and Civilization" (2004-2009), "Archaeology of Athens" (2006-2008), "Historical Documentation of Regional Newspapers" (2008-2009), "Achaia's Political History (19th-20th c.)" (2011-), etc.

His research interests and publications are oriented mainly to the study of the political, social, military and economic history of the 19th and 20th centuries, more recently focused in the examination of various aspects of the 1967-1974 Dictatorship. He speaks and writes in Greek, French and English.
