Current interests include the study and use of organometallic compounds and main group metal alkoxides. These compounds present normal organometallic behaviour regarding reactions with electrophiles, but their reactivity is often quite different from the simple organometallic reagent. We are exploiting their properties for study of particular problems in synthesis and catalysis. This activity has led to a new simple method for the preparation of molecules with large stereochemical requirements and, in general, to new high added value products.

This basic research in organic and organometallic chemistry led us recently to initiate activities centring on the design and synthesis of novel dendrimers with applications in biological and medicinal chemistry, in the chemistry of materials and in environmental chemistry. Specifically these activities focus on molecules with antioxidative properties, with chromophore groups, and with the ability to complex metal ions.  

Other areas that we are also currently involved in concern the exploration of organic and organometallic compounds with nonlinear optical properties and as near infrared dyes and in the use of main group organometallic reagents for the synthesis of new polyfunctional ligands of the hemilabile type. These ligands are of great current interest for the promise they hold for the development of more selective catalysts. This project has also been the subject of a collaboration with the Favorsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
