NMR spectroscopy in solution and in solid phase

Conformational analysis and in silico binding studies

Research Interests

(a) Assessment of the bioactive conformations of biologically active compounds and mapping of their binding site interactions with a specific target.
Studies have been applied to antihypertensive analogs (AT1 antagonists), novel derivatives of the neurosteroid hormone DHEA with antiapoptotic and neuroprotective activity, labdane-type diterpenes
with anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic and cytostatic activity
(b) Structure elucidation of novel bioactive compounds from natural sources (plant or marine origin)
(c) Metabolic profile monitoring of natural products (alcoholic beverages, olive oil) using HR NMR
spectroscopy and multivariate statistical analysis.
(d) Biophysical studies of membrane:drug interactions (i.e. AT1 antagonists with DPPC bilayers) using solid state NMR spectroscopy 

Synopsis
Co-author in 30 publications and 3 review articles in peer-review international journals, 5 chapters in international edition books, a patent, and several written/oral participations in international and national conferences.
Participation in 4 EU research programs, 3 bilateral collaborations, 3 National programs and 2 EU networks.
Supervisor of a Ph.D thesis and an M.Sc thesis. Participation in scientific committees of PhD and MSc students. Training of students and young researchers who have accomplished their diploma work, MSc  and PhD theses in the Laboratory of Molecular Analysis.
Design and implementation of ''SoftCRM'',  statistical s/w for the certification process of Reference Materials.
