The instrumentation available includes: multinuclear NMR (Bruker, 300 MHz for liquid samples and 400 MHz for solids), MS (Finnigan MAT TSQ 7000), GC (Varian Star 3400 CX), GC/MS/MS (Varian Saturn 2000), FT-IR (Nicolet Impact 420), elemental analyzer (Perkin-Elmer PE 2400 II), Differential Scanning Calorimeter DSC7, Perkin Elmer, HPLC, sonochemical and high pressure reactors, glove-box, protein expression, purification facilities, standard laboratory equipment, some of which is shared with IBRB, protein crystallisation [newly constructed, constant-temperature (20 °C) room and a number of bench top controlled temperature incubators (4, 16 and 20 °C), for protein crystallisations, stereo-microscopes] access to X-ray facilities for macromolecular crystallography through the Center for Crystallographic Studies of Macromolecules in N.C.S.R. Demokritos (Rigaku RU-H3RHB, ë=1.5418 A, equipped with an R-AXIS IV image plate detector and an Oxford cryosystem for data collection under cryogenic conditions), and the European Synchrotron Radiation Sources (Daresbury Laboratory, Daresbury, UK, Sinchrotrone Trieste, Trieste, Italy, EMBL, Hamburg-Outstation, DESY, and ESRF, Grenoble, France), through grant applications.
4 Silicon Graphics O2 (R10000 and R12000) and 1 Silicon Graphics Indy (R4600) workstations, 3 Hewlett Packard Visualise B2000, 2 Linux cluster based on eight AMD processors ATHLON 1.4 GHz (Octathlon) all equipped with X-ray data processing and structure analysis programs, etc.
Additionally, IOPC has been recently awarded by the Greek Ministry of Development a grant on Design and Synthesis of Bioactive Molecules of 1.125.000 for the purchase of infrastructure (such as 500 or 600 MHz NMR, microwave apparatus, solid phase synthesis equipment, crystallisation robotic workstation for automatic protein crystallization, equipped with imaging systems, controlled-temperature incubator for storage, etc.).
