Since its foundation as Center for Greek and Roman Antiquity, one of the main objectives of the Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity has been the emphasis on the study of primary epigraphic material. The identification of Greek and Latin inscriptions, their documentation, the creation of an archive of squeezes, as well as the publication of both individual inscriptions and comprehensive epigraphic corpora, has been one of the fundamental priorities of SGRA, which has now been internationally recognized as the preeminent Greek institution for epigraphic publications. Throughout the lifetime of the Section (formerly Center) of Greek and Roman Antiquity, these studies have covered many regions, from Macedonia and Epirus—including the portion that now belongs to modern Albania—, the Peloponnese, the Cyclades, to cities of Asia Minor, Cyprus, and Palestine. Today, this output continues unabated, always in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the respective local Ephorates of Antiquities.
