CLOSEKingdoms of Cyprus (with an emphasis on their monetary policy)
Evangeline Markou
In conjunction with the numismatic corpora (see: Numismatic Corpora of Cyprus), I am investigating the monetary policy of the kings of Cyprus and aiming at a better understanding of the history of the Cypriot city-kingdoms through a combination of numismatic, literary, epigraphic (in Cypro-Syllabic, Phoenician, and alphabetic scripts), and archaeological evidence. The research spans from the first coin issues at the end of the 6th century BC to the abolition of the kingdoms by Ptolemy in 306 BC. Given that a large number of Cypriot kings are known exclusively through their coinage, the goal is to reconstruct the dynastic succession, assess the scale of coin production, and attempt a reconstruction of the chronological framework.
