This project focuses on the study of the movement of private Roman and Italian individuals to the East for economic purposes from the 3rd century BC onward. The study is divided into two strands: the study of individual persons and the study of local Roman and Italian collectives. Drawing on literary and epigraphic sources, as well as archaeological evidence, the project explores their initial encounters with Greek cities, their economic activities, and their gradual penetration into local societies.
