The typological and iconographic study of funerary stelai from Aegean Thrace and the Strymon Valley (Serres) is combined with an archaeometric analysis of their material (marble), employing isotopic, petrographic, and geochemical analysis. Conducted in collaboration with Lorenzo Lazzarini (Iuav University, Venice), Walter Prochaska, and Vasiliki Anevlavi (Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna), the study of the marble has yielded interesting results regarding the use of both local and imported marbles. Additionally, the identification of ancient quarries, some of which were previously only partially known, has provided new data concerning marble transport in antiquity.
