With numerous research distinctions, competitive European programs, and strategic collaborations, the NHRF has emerged as a pillar of innovation and knowledge. Some of the most significant achievements of the NHRF over the last three years, which demonstrate its dynamic progress in the field of research, are as follows:

• Dr. N. S. Tagiara (TPCI/NHRF): Awarded the “2022 Norbert J. Kreidl Award for Young Scholars in Glass Science” by the American Ceramic Society for her outstanding doctoral thesis on “Synthesis, structure and properties of pure TeO2 glass, binary and ternary tellurite glasses.”
• Dr. S. Kremydi (IHR/NHRF): Awarded the “Archer Milton Huntington Medal Award for 2021” by the American Numismatic Society.
• Dr. N. Tagmatarchis, Dr. S. Pispas, Dr. O. Tsilippakos (TPCI/NHRF): Ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in the fields of: (a) Chemistry, in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and the related subfield of Organic Chemistry, (b) Chemistry, in the field of Polymer Science and the subfield of Chemical Physics, and (c) the fields/subfields, “Enabling & Strategic Technologies/Photonics & Optoelectronics” and “Physics & Astronomy/Applied Physics.”

• Dr. T. Katsila (ICB/NHRF): Named “Human of HUPO” (identification and communication of protein scientists) for 2023
• Dr. N. Chondrogianni (ICB/NHRF):  Awarded “The Leopold Flohé Redox Pioneer Young Investigator Award 2023” (Honorary award to young researchers who lead their own team for their exceptional new findings in the field of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress, selected by an International Scientific Committee)
• Dr. E.I. Kamitsos (TPCI/NHRF): Honorary distinction at the “10th International Conference on Borate Glasses, Crystals and Melts” (2023, Corning, NY, USA), “In recognition of a lifelong dedication to the structure/property understanding of borate glasses” (“In recognition of his lifelong dedication to understanding the structure/properties of borate glasses”)

Success Stories

• From research to product: acquisition of the start-up company “QuadrEl Srl” [(co-founder: Dr. T. Kalogeropoulou, ICB/NHRF) which discovered a candidate drug for canine leishmaniasis (Kala-Azar)]
• The long-standing contribution of TPCI researchers to the theoretical foundation of Attosecond Physics, the field that was awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics.
