Action for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage from the Impacts of Climate Change
The project focuses on protecting the Underwater Cultural Heritage from the impacts of climate change and is part of the broader program “Underwater Archaeological Research of Kasos–Karpathos.” It is an initiative of the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities and the University of West Attica. The project aims to safeguard and highlight metallic finds—such as cannons and anchors—discovered on the seabed of Kasos and threatened by climate change. By applying the in situ cathodic protection method, it achieves effective corrosion resistance and significantly extends the lifespan of these artifacts.
