Research strategy

Key objective of TPCI is the understanding of structure and properties of matter and light-matter interactions, that would facilitate the exploitation of nanostructured materials with advanced functionality for, among others, energy-related applications, optical and electrochemical sensing, nanomedicine, electro-optics, photonic and quantum technology applications. To this aim, TPCI pursues interdisciplinary research and acquired strong expertise along the following research directions:

  • Theoretical and Computational Chemistry and Materials Science
  • Materials Synthesis and Physical Chemistry
  • Photonics & Quantum Technology

Two central research themes, in which TPCI is scientifically strong, have been identified, in order to emphasize and develop new internal collaborations (or enhance existing ones). These are:

(1) energy and environment and

(2) health and biomaterials.

Therefore, a great outcome including not only joint publications by TPCI researchers at high-impact journals but most importantly, joint external funding, at both national and international level, is realized.
