Installation and Successful Site Acceptance of Cryo-EM Microscopes at NHRF

The installation and site acceptance tests of the new cryo-electron microscopy cryo-EM instruments at the NHRF are currently being performed, marking a major milestone for the establishment of the institute’s advanced imaging infrastructure.

The installation process, carried out by specialized engineers from Thermo Fisher Scientific, took place under the continuous supervision of the ERA Chair Hot4Cryo project team members, Prof. Dr. Panagiotis Kastritis together with the Deputy Scientific Coordinator, Dr. Christos Chochos. Dr. Fotis Kyrilis handled day-to-day operations, and Dr. Naya Koralli and Dr. Despoina Aggelaki provided expert scientific assistance throughout this demanding process. Following installation, comprehensive workflow validation procedures will confirm the full operational readiness of the facility.

Importantly, the Krios G4 microscope has already produced its first high-resolution cryo-EM micrograph of apoferritin, demonstrating the performance and stability of this instrument. This achievement highlights the successful deployment of the new infrastructure and its readiness to support cutting-edge research in structural biology and nanoscience.
