We take advantage of the built-in functionalities of the copolymers we synthesize in order to construct complex (bio)hybrid nanostructures and nanomaterials, able to be utilized in a number of nanotechnological applications by providing proof-of-concept studies. We mainly make use of electrostatic co-assembly, and hydrophobic interactions, between synthetic copolymers and other building blocks available, like nucleic acids (DNAs, RNAs), proteins/peptides, hydrophobic drugs, lipids, surfactants, natural polymers, inorganic magnetic/plasmonic nanoparticles and carbon nanomaterials, toward the formation of tailor-made hierarchical, environmentally responsive and (bio)functional nanoconstructs, nanocarriers and nanocontainers.
We pursue utilization of these nanostructures in gene and drug delivery schemes for therapy, bio-imaging, theranostics, (bio)sensing, water purification technologies and for advanced solid polymer electrolyte systems.
