Technology transfer

As part of the NHRF’s ongoing effort to connect the research results of its Institutes with the market and the economy, the Technology Transfer Office has been established to serve the following objectives:

  • Exploitation of research results and management of intellectual property, being responsible for the development of mechanisms that ensure the effective utilization and commercial exploitation of research results, while also managing the intellectual property (IP) generated in the context of the Foundation’s activities.
  • Liaising with industry, actively promoting collaborations and links with industry and productive bodies both within Greece and internationally, promoting the commercial exploitation of research innovations.
  • Supporting patent applications, providing comprehensive assistance to researchers in preparing and submitting patent applications and ensuring legal and procedural compliance throughout the process.
  • Business development and market analysis, helping researchers draft business plans and conduct market analyses to identify the commercial potential of the services and products resulting from their research.

The committee responsible for defining the strategy of the Technology Transfer Office is the Special Committee for the Exploitation of Research (SCER). The SCER is also responsible for formulating opinions to the Board of Directors regarding researchers’ requests and the evaluation of their proposals, the approval of participation in joint actions and projects with similar structures in Greece and abroad, as well as the composition of the Office’s staff.

The SCER is composed of:

  1. the Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation or another representative, who is appointed from the outset by the Board of Directors as a member and Chairman of the Committee, following a recommendation by the Chairman of the Board of Directors,
  2. one representative from each Institute,
  3. the Director of Support Services or another representative, who is appointed by the Board of Directors as a member of the Committee, following a recommendation by the Director.

A representative from the Technology Transfer Office is appointed as rapporteur to the Special Committee for Research Exploitation, who also assumes the role of Secretary of the Committee. The members of the Special Committee for Research Exploitation are assisted by the legal advisor responsible for Technology Transfer issues and by an additional researcher as representative of the Institute concerned with each request, while external experts may also assist when necessary and feasible.

With the aim of promoting cooperation and providing services and innovative solutions to industry, businesses, and the wider public sector, the activities of the Technology Transfer Office include the following:

  • Mapping the services and products of the NHRF
  • Identifying potential users of the services and products of the NHRF
