CLOSEIHR Publications
The Institute of Historical Research (as the successor of the three old autonomous historical Institutes) boasts a decades long tradition of excellence in scholarly editions, including corpora of primary sources, catalogues, monographs, collective works, conference proceedings, scholarly journals, and various other publications.
Scholarly responsibility for the Institute’s publication program lies with the Director of the Institute and the Coordinators of the Institute’s three Sections, assisted by a Publications Committee. Most publications belong to long-established or specific-purpose series, such as the MELETEMATA and Ancient Societies series of the Section for Greek and Roman Antiquity, the Athos Archives, Sources, Byzantine Research Library, and Studies series of the Section of Byzantine Research, or the Historical Library of the 1821 Greek Revolution, Modern Greek Studies, and Conference Proceedings series of the Section of Neohellenic Research. In parallel with its printed publications, the IHR has developed the series of e-books Digital Publications, which is available on an open-access basis. The publications of each Section are overseen by a special committee consisting of researchers from the respective field. Responsible for the artistic design and layout of the publications is the Publications Unit, which belongs to the Department of Research Support and Promotion of IHR.
The sale and distribution of our publications are carried out through various channels. Since 1998, a bookstore has been operating on the ground floor of the NHRF, while an online bookstore was launched in early 2018. Wholesale distribution in Greece is managed by Chris Marinis, whereas for international distribution an agreement was concluded with Brepols Publishing in 2021. The latter mainly concerns titles published in languages other than Greek, such as the MELETEMATA series of the Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity and the Byzantine Research Library series of the Section of Byzantine Research.
