The Institute of Historical Research (IHR) is devoted to the study of the political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental history of the Greek world and the broader regions where Hellenism has flourished — that is, the wider eastern Mediterranean — from prehistoric antiquity to the present day.
The research activities of the IHR are organized into three Sections (the Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity, the Section of Byzantine Research, and the Section of Neohellenic Research). The research projects of these three Sections are integrated into five broad scientific clusters, which serve as common reference points both for the Institute as a whole and for each Section individually.
