The first decade of the unified Institute of Historical Research (IHR) was a period of exceptional productivity as well as profound reflection for its three Sections: Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity (SGRA), Section of Byzantine Research (SBR), and Section of Neohellenic Research (SNE). To a large extent, the challenges arising from the IHR’s unified structure reflected broader developments in the international research landscape, characterized by a steady shift toward interdisciplinarity and collaborative synergies. In response to these evolving conditions, the IHR undertook in 2024 a comprehensive reorganization of its research priorities, aiming to strengthen interconnections among the Sections and to further integrate its overall research output. As of 2025, the numerous research projects—both ongoing and newly launched—across the three Sections are organized into five broad clusters. These clusters encompass the full spectrum of contemporary historical inquiry while serving as shared points of reference for the Institute as a whole and for each Section individually.
