Paschalis Paschidis, Sophia Kremydi
Partly stemming from the study of primary sources (see Archive of Inscriptions of Macedonia), the systematic research on the history of the Macedonian kingdom up to its dissolution by the Romans in 168 BC focuses primarily on the kingdom’s political institutions, not only at the level of central administration (royal authority, royal court, Macedonian assembly), but also at the local (cities and related bodies) and regional (merides, or districts) levels. The study of institutions and mechanisms of power is never conducted in isolation but is always contextualized within the broader geographical and historical environment: other political entities in the Greek world (cities and koina), as well as the other kingdoms of the Hellenistic period.
