CLOSEMapping Ancient Cultural Encounters: Greeks in Iran ca. 550 BC – ca. AD 650
Antigoni Zournatzi
The encounters between the ancient Greek and ancient Iranian worlds hold a significant place in the history of East–West relations. They also represent a field of research in which Greek scholarly presence is notably limited. This project aims at a collection, assessment and systematic
presentation, through an open-access digital platform, of the diverse archaeological, epigraphic, and numismatic evidence that relates to the Greek presence and the Greek-Iranian interactions within the territory of the modern state of Iran during the Achaemenid, Alexandrine–Hellenistic, Parthian, and Sasanian periods.
For presentations of research results see the pilot website https://iranohellenica.eie.gr/, and under the project “East-West cultural interconnections in antiquity: Greek-Iranian encounters and interactions (ca. 550 BC – AD 651)”.
Research partially funded in 2014–2015 by the collective project “Kyrtou Plegmata” of IHR/NHRF, Action KREPIS of the Hellenic General Secretariat for Research and Technology.
