CLOSEInstitute of Historical Research/NHRF Oral History Collection
Kostas Tampakis, Christos Chrysanthopoulos
The project aims to create an archival collection of documents and oral testimonies that highlight the history of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. At the core of this initiative lies the collection and digitization of archival materials, along with the conduct of interviews with researchers from the Institute’s three Sections (Neohellenic Research, Byzantine Research, and Greek and Roman Antiquity). Special emphasis is also placed on including testimonies from staff, scientific collaborators, and personnel who have worked in or around the Institute, contributing to the shaping of its identity and directions.
The project aspires to gradually expand its scope to encompass the full range of structures and activities of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, composing a multifaceted and polyphonic narrative of its historical trajectory and its role in the Greek and international research landscape. By incorporating tools and approaches from oral history, the project seeks to shed light not only on institutional developments but also on informal practices, scientific orientations, interpersonal relationships, and cultural dynamics that have shaped the course of the IHR.
