Professors, scholars, translators, and publishers are key figures for the in-depth study of cultural transfers over a long period, from the founding of the Greek state (1830) to the fall of the dictatorship (1974). The approach adopted is primarily prosopographic/biographical, with the aim of studying, through these individuals, the various types of cultural mediation and transfer, as well as the institutions with which these individuals were associated.

The objective of the research is to investigate the intercultural networks of professors, the networks of translations, translators, and periodicals, the politics of publishing and translation, the history of academic chairs and institutions, and more.

The project aims to create a dynamic and publicly accessible website that will host a historical Database, scholarly studies, digitized documents, texts, and images. The focus will be on the prosopographic (bio-bibliographical) presentation, study, and documentation of the work and activity of scholars and cultural mediators active between 1830 and 1974, whether well-known or lesser-known in the literature.

The website, which has already been created and is continuously enriched, includes:

  • (a) the bio-bibliographical profile of each individual,
  • (b) a critical overview of their activities,
  • (c) studies related to these individuals and their broader historical context,
  • (d) relevant bibliography (both digital and print), and
  • (e) digitized documents and visual material.

As part of the programme, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) and the University of Patras. The project involves a total of 23 collaborators affiliated with the following universities and research institutions:
