CLOSEBiographing the State: A Digital Prosopography of the Greek Public Administration (19th c.) – BioState
Dimitris Dimitropoulos, Vasso Seirinidou
The BioState research project investigates and records the civil servants of the Provisional Administration of Greece (1822–1827), tracing their life paths. Based on the identification, processing, and cross-referencing of archival sources that document the careers of this group, the research project aims to develop a digital application for the study of their collective biography, employing digital prosopography methodologies. Biostate explores the institutional formation of the Greek state, seeking to understand the roles these early officials played. It shifts the analytical focus from institutional structures to the interplay between institutions and individuals. The research project is a collaboration between the Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and the Institute of Historical Research, National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF).
