Funding of the SWIRFlex-DT project by the European Innovation Council EIC Pathfinder Open 2025 (Coordinator C. Chochos, ICB-NHRF)

The SWIRFlex-DT project has been awarded funding through the highly competitive EIC Pathfinder Open 2025 programme, which supports visionary and high-risk research with transformative potential. With a success rate of below 2%, the programme funds only a small number of groundbreaking proposals across Europe.

The project will be coordinated by Dr. Chochos at the ICB/NHRF over the next 42 months, with a total budget of €4,051,000. SWIRFlex-DT brings together 10 leading academic and industrial partners across Europe, including Imperial College London, The University of Manchester, The University of Edinburgh, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Universidade da Coruña, and the National Technical University of Athens.

The consortium aims to develop the first organic-based high-performance photodetectors and imaging systems for the shortwave infrared (SWIR) spectral range, using flexible and sustainable organic semiconductors. These technologies could enable new applications in healthcare diagnostics, environmental monitoring, LiDAR systems, and wearable electronics, contributing to European leadership in next-generation photonics.
