The project is a Subproject of the Action entitled “Technological Research and Know-How – Flow of Ideas & Collaboration (TETRIS),” through which a partnership of collaborating institutions—research organizations and universities—is implemented to create a network of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs). The aim is the further development and optimization of the capabilities of the staff comprising the Network’s TTOs, as well as the further enhancement of the high value-added services provided by the Network’s TTOs. The TTO Network bears the title TETRIS (Technology Transfer and Research Innovation Synergy) and spans a large geographic area of Greece, as it is composed of two Higher Education Institutions (the University of West Attica – UNIWA, and the Hellenic Mediterranean University – HMU) and research institutes with significant research output and nationwide coverage (National Hellenic Research Foundation – NHRF, Hellenic Centre for Marine Research – HCMR, Biomedical Sciences Research Center “Alexander Fleming”, Hellenic Pasteur Institute – HPI, Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas – FORTH, National Centre for Social Research – EKKE (as an observing partner), and the Hellenic Agricultural Organization “Dimitra”). The institutions of the network will work together with the strategic goal of creating appropriate support mechanisms and conditions that will contribute to the exploitation of their research outcomes.

The aim of the TETRIS Network is to evolve into a comprehensive one-stop service center where the collaborating institutions, as well as innovation-driven enterprises, will receive high value-added support services in identifying and exploiting innovation, along with support for developing collaborations that will enable their further growth through the adoption of new products and services. The TETRIS Network will act as the gateway of the collaborating Bodies to industry and entrepreneurship, helping them to make optimal use of their research results.

Through the collaboration of the network’s institutions, a highly significant critical mass of research capacity and exploitable research results is created, enabling the full operation of a technology transfer structure capable of employing and collaborating with specialized consultants and experts necessary for the effective functioning of a TTO. The expertise generated through the operation of the TETRIS Network will be shared among all collaborating institutions, allowing them to operate more effectively than if each institution were to support its own TTO independently, and contributing to the development of their staff’s skills.

It is emphasized that each TTO within the TETRIS Network has developed its own operational plan based on the internal needs, specific characteristics, and scientific domain of each institution. In all cases, they will provide—based on their internal experience and specialization, and through external collaborators in the shared partner registry—services that cover the widest possible range of needs of their research and academic communities in matters of technology transfer, IP protection and registration, and commercial exploitation.

At the same time, within the framework of the TETRIS TTO Network collaboration, they will have access to a package of services categorized under the following axes:

  1. Support for Technology Transfer Office operations and staff training
  2. Technology discovery, evaluation, and protection of new knowledge
  3. Networking, exploitation of new knowledge, dissemination, and commercial utilization
  4. Development of the immediate innovation and technology transfer ecosystem
  5. Attraction of funding
