Digital dissemination infrastructure for the Institute of Historical Research and historical studies in Greece
The Institute of Historical Research, recognizing the essential importance of outward engagement and the connection of research with society, and leveraging the possibilities offered by the internet, is implementing its developmental project: “Digital Infrastructure for the Dissemination and Communication of the Institute of Historical Research and Historical Studies in Greece.”
The objectives of the project include, among others, the systematic and targeted dissemination of the research produced or ongoing at the IHR across the full spectrum of its scholarly activity, from antiquity to the modern era. Within the framework of the IHR’s specialized and exclusive focus on Greek history, it was decided that the project would not only concern the Institute’s internal activity but would also, with an open spirit, contribute to the publicization and dissemination of historical research in Greece, thus serving as a cohesive hub for the interaction of academic institutions and the diffusion of knowledge.
The project’s methodology will be guided by theoretical frameworks from the fields of information science and communication studies, as well as developments in digital humanities, inaugurating a new interdisciplinary perspective for the study and application of historical research dissemination.
Within the project, a strategic plan for the dissemination of the IHR’s activities will be produced, along with a digital platform incorporating original informational and audiovisual communication materials, and all communication capabilities offered by social media will be utilized. The scientific and societal impact is expected to be significant, as, for the first time, a communication and dissemination infrastructure for historical studies in Greece will be created. This platform will bring together in a single, functional digital multimedia environment interconnected informational data concerning research output and developments in historical studies in Greece as well as in Greek studies departments abroad.
