Current interests centre on the use of modified main group organometallics and particularly the very strong metallating agent mixture consisting of butyllithium and lithium potassium dimethylaminoalkoxide. This reagent in the presence of magnesium 2-ethoxyethoxide, promotes the catalytic side-chain ethylation of alkylaromatics to give sterically congested molecules with many possible applications in catalysis, materials science and pharmaceutical chemistry. more
	A second area with which we are currently engaged concerns the use of main group organometallic reagents for the synthesis of new polyfunctional ligands of the hemilabile type. These ligands are of great current interest for the promise they hold for the development of more selective catalysts. This project has also been the subject of a collaboration with the Favorsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. more
As part of our policy of developing applications for our research, we are also currently involved in the exploration of organic and organometallic compounds with nonlinear optical properties and, more recently, as near infrared dyes more
	Future developments in collaboration with other members of the Institute are planned in the area of dendrimer chemistry and we have already published a short communication of our preliminary work in this area. more
