The Research Network on the Cinema of Theo Angelopoulos was established in 2022 as a collaborative initiative among the Department of History-Archaeology of the University of Patras; the Department of Primary Education (and the MA program “Educational Sciences – Education Using New Technologies”) of the University of the Aegean; the Department of Primary Education (and the MA program “Educational Sciences: Issues of History, Historical Education and Educational Policy”) of the University of Western Macedonia; the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation; and the non-profit civil company ANAPARASTASI, managed by members of Theodoros Angelopoulos’ family.
The Network’s goals include the interdisciplinary study of the multiple dimensions of Angelopoulos’ artistic oeuvre; the national and international dissemination, communication, and educational use of the knowledge generated through research; engagement with students, scholars, educators, and the general public; and the contextualization of his cinematic work within its historical framework.
