The Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI) was established in 1979 and is one of the six research Institutes of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF). The goals of the TPCI include:
The advancement of scientific research in the fields of theoretical and computational chemistry and physics, and experimental physical chemistry - chemical physics.
The training of young scientists (undergraduates, graduates and postdoctoral fellows) in the methodology and practices of modern research.
The transfer of know-how developed in the Institute into selected industrial applications through its R&D service facilities.
Permanent staff consists of twenty full-time PhD researchers, one special scientist, one technician and two secretaries. A variable number of collaborating researchers, post-doctoral associates and graduate students constitute a vital part of the Institute's human resources, which are additionally enhanced by collaborating faculty members and visiting scientists.
The Institute maintains modern computational facilities and laboratories for the development of new materials and their study with advanced spectroscopic and laser techniques.
Funding of research is provided by the Greek Government (General Secretariat for Research and Technology), by the European Commission and other International Organisations and by industry through projects of applied research.
