CLOSE“Nikos Oikonomides” Seminar
The Section of Byzantine Research at the Institute collaborates with the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens within the framework of the postgraduate program “Byzantine World: History and Archaeology”. As part of this collaboration, the interdisciplinary seminar “Nikos Oikonomides” is organised annually during the spring semester. Established in 1988 by the late Professor Nikos Oikonomides – Byzantine historian and then Director of the Institute of Historical Research – the seminar was initially integrated into the Department’s former postgraduate programme from the academic year 1989–1990. Following Professor Oikonomides’s passing in 2000, the seminar was renamed in his honour.
In recent years, the seminar has taken place at the premises of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, with the active participation of a member of the Section. Its primary aim is to promote an interdisciplinary approach to topics drawn from Byzantine History, Archaeology and Art History, and Philology.
