Economy and Society

The Section of Byzantine Research focuses on the study of the economy and society of the Byzantine period and the period of the Latin dominions in the Greek territories, highlighting the interactions between production, trade, administration, and social structures.

The research goes beyond the description of economic or social phenomena, systematically examining issues such as the production, circulation, and trade of goods and coinage, the functioning of enterprises, social groups and classes, daily life, and social behavior. In this way, the Section contributes to a deeper understanding of the economic and social dynamics of the Byzantine and Medieval world.
