The application “Digital Historical Atlas of Greek “Micronesia’” (HAGMi) will highlight the history of the small Greek island territories of the Aegean Sea diachronically, as well as their multiple connections with the larger ones through the centuries, with the aim of ‘integrating’ the islets and rocky islets into the history and culture of the Archipelago.

More specifically, the proposed project will attempt a holistic historical-geographical approach to the Greek “Micronesia” of the Aegean for the first time, all the while studying islets and rocky islets from antiquity to the modern age. This will be achieved by systematically compiling and combining all the data that could be used (geographical, historical, archaeological, and toponymical) and at the same time geographically depicting all island territories in all possible versions.

The Northern Dodecanese, which is an area of the Aegean characterized by a large number and density of small island territories, will be utilized as a case study for the design of the HAGMi application, which is envisioned to gradually cover the whole Greek Archipelago.
