Byzantine Meetings

The Byzantine Meetings is a workshop co-organized every year since 2023 by the Institute of Historical Research (IHR), the French School of Athens and Haoma UMR 5189 (CNRS). The workshops, dedicated to different topics each year, are attended by researchers from these institutions as well as from all over the world. The aim of the workshops is to promote cooperation between the two major Byzantine research centres based in Athens and with the CNRS. The lectures take place at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, but can also be attended online.

• 13 May 2024: 2nd Journée d’Études Byzantines: ‘East and West: cultural transfers in Byzantium and Beyond / Orient et Occident : transferts culturels à Byzance et au-delà’, Hellenic Research Institute Seminar Hall (organized by A. G. Giagaki, K. Smyrlis).
• 2 May 2023: 1st Journée d’Études Byzantines: “Peasants in the Byzantine World: The State of the Question”.
