CLOSEThe Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF) hosts a Laboratory of Digital Historical Cartography. The new Laboratory, utilizing the applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), aims to produce original, primarily digital, thematic maps, which will present information from diverse historical and archaeological sources in a documented, comprehensible, and aesthetically refined manner, with the capability to cover the entire chronological spectrum of Greek history.
As for the SNR, the project “Historical Study of Settlements in Greece, 15th-19th Centuries” is an early example of spatial approaches, aiming to study the historical formation of the Greek space. This also includes studies of environmental history relating to modern times.
