Laboratory of Digital Historical Cartography at the Institute of Historical Research
The Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF) launches a Laboratory of Digital Historical Cartography. The new Laboratory, utilizing the applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), aims to produce original, primarily digital, thematic maps, which will present information from diverse historical and archaeological sources in a documented, comprehensible, and aesthetically refined manner, with the capability to cover the entire chronological spectrum of Greek history. Completion of the first digital map of Greece within its administrative boundaries of 1940
As part of the research project “Database of German military and paramilitary units in
Greece 1941-1944/45” and within the framework of an international collaboration between
the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF), the University of Osnabrück and the Greek
National Center for Social Research (EKKE), the first digital map of Greece within its
administrative boundaries of 1940 is now being created.

The course “Institutional economic networks in the Mediterranean 18th-19th centuries” is offered in the framework of the Program of Postgraduate Studies of Department of Political Science and History at Panteion University. The course is conducted by the researchers of the Institute of Historical Research: Maria Christina Chatziioannou, Dimitris Dimitropoulos and George Koutzakiotis, and will be held during the spring semester 2016 in the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
