Funding of 37,000 € for the research program "Mapping the abandoned settlements of the Peloponnese 18th - 20th century" led by Dimitris Dimitropoulos, Director of Research, SNR/IHR/NHRF.

"Aqueous Asymmetric Homogeneous Catalysis" (YDAK)
The National Hellenic Research Foundation with Dr. Ioannis D. Kostas (Research Director, ICB/NHRF) as scientist-in-charge, implements the project "Aqueous Asymmetric Homogeneous Catalysis" (YDAK), in the framework of the Action "Support of researchers with emphasis on young researchers - Call B", NSRF 2014-2020.

New cationic heptamethinecyanine-graphene hybrid materials
The innovative study was published in “Dyes and Pigments” and represents the collaborative research of the ICB/NHRF researchers: Dr. K.C. Prousis, Dr. V. Zoumpourlis, and Dr. T. Calogeropoulou as well as the TPCI/NHRF researcher Dr. N. Tagmatarchis. The study involves the design and synthesis of new heptamethinecyanine dyes and their hybrids with exfoliated graphene having potential bioapplications and in particular the photothermal therapy of cancer.

Farewell event in honor of Dr. Josef Puchta
On Friday November 29, in Heidelberg, Germany, an event in honor of Dr. Josef Puchta, former Director of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Dr. Josef Puchta is a founding member of the International Scientific Committee of the Athens Comprehensive Cancer Center (ACCC) that constitutes a major initiative of the NHRF in collaboration with the DKFZ for the individualized and holistic treatment of cancer in our country.

"Scientific research meets the wide public" round table
The "Scientific research meets the wide public" round table, was successfully held on Monday, 2 December 2019 at "Leonidas Zervas" Amphitheater of NHRF. Convinced that research and technology are not just for scientists and should not be limited to the four walls of a laboratory, the NHRF aimed to address the audience who attended the event, on the progress of scientific research and the obvious results in the welfare of the whole community.

Novel studies of cell interactions on nanostructured surfaces (MIS 5048213)
The research project studies the interaction of aggressive breast cancer cells with immune cells, known as “natural killers”, by in vitro co-cultures which simulate the in vivo natural microenvironment.

Chemically modified MoS2 with organic recognition motifs as electrochemical sensors for the selective detection of ions and (bio)molecules (MIS 5048201)
The project aims to develop electrochemical sensors for the selective detection of ions and (bio)molecules of high diagnostic importance. It is implemented by the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI/NHRF) and funded within the framework of the Operational Programme "Human Resources Development Education and Lifelong Learning", co-financed by Greece and the European Union (ΕΣΠΑ 2014-2020).

FEMS Masters Thesis Award
Mr. George Chatzigiannakis was awarded 1st place in the 2020 European-wide Masters Thesis competition, organized by the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), to recognize the best Masters Thesis on Materials Science and Engineering. The topic of his thesis was “Laser-microstructured ZnO/Si heterojunction photodetectors” and the research was performed at the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI/NHRF), under the supervision of Senior Researcher Dr. Maria Kandyla.

"RESEARCH-CREATE-INNOVATE" project : PEPtADe
The National Hellenic Research Foundation participates in the research project PEPtADe that aims to develop potent small molecules-inhibitors of Aβ aggregation, which plays a key role in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

"Advanced Research on the 3D Structure of the Mosquito Odorant Receptor Coreceptor (3D-ORCO)", a project coordinated by the National Hellenic Research Foundation and Dr. Spyros Zographos, on behalf of the Institute of Chemical Biology (ICB/NHRF), was among the 22 Category II proposals in the area of "Life Sciences - Medical and Health Sciences", funded by Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation (H.F.R.I.), in the framework of the "1st Call of H.F.R.I. research projects to support faculty members (DEP) and researchers and procure high-value research equipment".

"Lire les Archives de l’Athos. Actes du colloque réuni à Athènes du 18 au 20 novembre 2015 à l’occasion des 70 ans de la collection refondée par Paul Lemerle, Travaux et Mémoires 23/2"
The volume "Lire les Archives de l’Athos. Actes du colloque réuni à Athènes du 18 au 20 novembre 2015 à l’occasion des 70 ans de la collection refondée par Paul Lemerle, Travaux et Mémoires 23/2" (Paris: Association des Amis du Centre d’Histoire et Civilisation de Byzance, 2019) brings together studies presented at the conference "Lire les Archives de l’Athos", held in Athens from 18 to 20 November 2015, as well as additional contributions and document editions. This conference was organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Archives de l’Athos series, relaunched by Paul Lemerle in 1945, whose aim is the publication of the Greek documents kept in the monasteries of Mount Athos in Greece and dating from before 1500.

Ping ‐ Pong Energy Transfer in Covalently Linked Porphyrin MoS2 Architectures

With most of its content to include a large number of articles of scientists who participated in the Workshop "Women and Monasticism in the Medieval Eastern Mediterranean: Decoding a Cultural Map" held in the framework of the "Women's Monasticism in the Late Byzantine Period" Program, the homonymous volume is released by the NHRF publications. The volume also includes other work by scientists specializing in investigating the role of women in different parts of the Eastern Mediterranean. Interview with new Researchers of NHRF
We met the Associate Researcher of TPCI/NHRF, Dr. Emmanouel Klontzas, who talked to us about the Sector of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry and Physics in which he belongs to. He explained to us on the role of his research to the comprehension of atoms, molecules and materials as well as to the moderation of climate change effects, through designing materials with the capacity of selectively blocking gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Effects of Subphase pH and Temperature on the Aggregation Behavior of Poly(lauryl acrylate)-block-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) at the Air/Water Interface
Amphiphilic block copolymers attract the scientific interest of the scientific community because of their ability to form self-assembling nanostructures in solutions and interfaces responsive to external stimuli. These nanostructures find applications, inter alia, in the transport / delivery of pharmaceuticals and in surface modification. The scientific team of Dr. Asterios (Stergios) Pispas, the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI/NHRF), synthesized novel amphiphilic PLA-b-PNIPAM block copolymers that respond to temperature changes.

Control of anterior GR adient 2 (AGR 2) dimerization links endoplasmic reticulum proteostasis to inflammation
Publication in the scientific journal “EMBO Molecular Medicine” where the bioinformatic work was conducted by the research group of Dr. Aristotelis Chatziioannou, Institute of Chemical Biology (ICB/NHRF), in which the intricate role of AGR2 dimerization is investigated, regarding the modulation of inflammatory response, as well as its impact in the severity of the manifestation of Inflammatory Bowel and Crohn’s Diseases.

Exhibition of the Antikythera Mechanism in Hefei, China (15.10.2019 - 15.02.2020)
The Institute of Historical Research (IHR/NHRF) and the museum of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) co-organized an exhibition for the Antikythera mechanism in a space of 220 m². The exhibition began on 15th of October and will last until 15th of February 2020.

The 24th annual "K.Th. Dimaras Lecture" on the subject of "Alternative Facts, Alternative Science. The Development of the Concept in Medieval Islam and Its Historical Consequences" took place on Wednesday, 4 December with the invited keynote speaker Dimitri Goutas, Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Yale University.
